Our Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting one of our rescued American Eskimos, please follow these procedures. A representative will get back with you soon. However, this could take up to a week or more, depending on our rescue schedule. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

 

Requirements for Adoption

Please review the following criteria to adopt:

  • Family dog(s) must be up to date on vaccinations, including rabies, distemper/parvo, bordatella, and lepto. We will require confirmation with your veterinarian.
  • Family dog(s) must be spayed/neutered and have a recent heartworm test.
  • Family dog(s) must be on heartworm preventative and have a history of being on heartworm preventative. Heartworm purchase and usage will need to be confirmed by your veterinarian.
  • Senior dogs must have recent bloodwork and dental.
  • All applicants must be 21 years of age, have a valid I.D. with current address.

NEXT 

Complete the ‘Online’ Adoption Application below and submit it. Or you can also download the PDF version to your computer, print it, complete it, and Email to info@eskierescuestl.org. You may also print the PDF application and send by USPS to P.O. Box 190523, St. Louis, MO 63119. We will be happy to send an application to you by USPS as well. Just let us know by calling 314-647-1112.

Once we receive your application a volunteer will call to discuss and review your application.

NEXT 

  1.  A meet and greet with the pet. A completed application must be received prior to a scheduling the meet and greet.
  2. If the meet and greet goes well, and family would like to take the next step a home visit will be scheduled. A home visit is a requirement as we would like to meet with you and your family. We want to make sure a good match is made for both your family and our rescued Eskie.
  3. IMPORTANT AND PLEASE NOTE: The adoption is not approved until a home visit is completed. The home visit is done so family can make sure this is a good fit for them and any other family pets.
  4. After the home visit is completed, and we have approved your adoption, you will be able to meet the foster family (or speak by phone). You will be asked to sign an adoption agreement and a wavier of liability at that time. In addition, you will be given the rescued Eskie’s adoption folder and any other medical information.

Volunteer
Wavier

If you would like to become a volunteer for the AER please
fill out a ‘Volunteer Wavier’ form.

We ask that you do the following
in preparation for your Eskie:

– Provide a crate for the Eskie

– Leash, collar, and a new information tag with your name and number on it.

(we appreciate the return of collar and Eskie Rescue tags)

– Promise collar or other training devise

– Have ready and available bowls and proper food

– Safe toys and bedding

– Treats

Also

– Make an appointment with your
personal veterinarian for the following:

1. Follow up fecal if dog was positive with worms after rescue

2., Heartworm preventative and frontline for next due date

3. Register Eskie with your local county by changing the rabies information and tag

4. Register your Eskie with Avid microchip by sending in the form with your name/address and
telephone number
